Kind Thoughts, Kind Words, Kind Deeds

09:09

Over the past several months I've come to learn that Heavenly Father likes to send me lessons in themes. Last semester, that theme was revelation and my testimony of it. So far this semester, the theme has most definitely been kindness and my attitude towards other people which is what I want to talk about here.

Being kind is something that I'd like to think I'm not too bad at. Having said that, I am very much prone to making snap judgments about people or speaking without thinking. What I'm realising is that whilst I am not actively unkind, we can have a bigger impact on the people around us than we know and if we aren't being actively kind, we probably aren't impacting them for the better.

We know the principle that thoughts lead to words and words lead to actions, and so what I think we can take away from that and apply here is that if we start with a positive attitude, the rest will fall in to place. The attitudes of other people have a strong impact on my mood and my ability to communicate with them, which means that if they are speaking positively, I feel uplifted in response. We might not think of positive thinking as being kind to someone, but actually we'd struggle to have one without the other. They just go hand it in hand.

One of my favourite scriptures as of last semester is Isiah 54:10 because it is such a beautiful reassurance for us of Heavenly Father's endless kindness which I depend on every day: "For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the Lord that hath mercy on thee."
You may not have quite the same beliefs as me, I know a lot of you don't, but I think we would all do well to have a little more kindness with us everywhere we go.
